The music! That “Ratchet Zooba” playlist is LIT! And we all know that the popstar classes pull music and choreo from some of the most classic and famous music videos. What more could you ask for out of a workout with your friends?! Anyone, dancer or non-dancer, can come and get their life all while getting severely snatched at the same time.
Britney Spears “Slave for You,” but not the real one. I mean the one from Glee with Britney S. Pierce. Does that count? I’m sorry, but Heather Morris SLAYS like no other in that video.
My mom put me in dance classes at the young, impressionable age of three in a studio just outside of DC. Don’t remember much about it. Half the time I feel like I woke up there. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case. Anyhow, I loved it and I haven’t stopped since!
Some of the other instructors can vouch for the fact that I normally like to go to the 7 Eleven right around the corner for cheese curls or popcorn, but that’s bad after a workout! So I now try to bring yogurt and granola for the subway home and then eat a high protein/vegg meal when I get in. It often takes the form of chicken caesar salad because I don’t cook.
Dance is where I can be as fierce, intense, and full out as I wanna be and have all this energy put to good use! And I LOVE to entertain people. What better way to do that than dancing? After all, it’s the universal form of nonverbal communication…had to be real for a second.
I also sing and act, so those are two other large aspects of my career in musical theater. I do a lot of gigs that incorporate tumbling and tricks derived from my cheerleading background into the choreo/show. And I am also a trained aerialist! There’s nothing more exhilarating than swinging from the ceiling or dropping from a bungee to do a full out routine!
Antarctica. That was easy. I’ve done the research. I planned out my trip 5 years ago. I’m flying to Patagonia, Chile and taking a cruise from there with Polar Cruises. Seriously. It’s happening by 2018. I have a goal to visit all 7 continents by around the time I turn a quarter of a century. And let me tell you, I’m making mad progress!
DEFINITELY jazz. My style of jazz, as demonstrated in much of my choreo, is founded in competition jazz technique and layered with an urban aesthetic /”street” nuance. It’s the perfect hybrid genre for dancers who are technically trained, but passionate about the fierce intensity and swag of street styles.
Well according to my high school senior yearbook, that would be: “God is a DJ. Life is a dance floor. Love is a rhythm. You are the music.” Yeeerp……
If not in rehearsal, teaching, performing, or travelling for a performance, I’m probably somewhere in the East Village getting lit.
As a semi finalist on Season 12 of So You Think You Can Dance, in Vegas Week, I thought it was a good idea to wear a tutu skirt for my STREET JAZZ solo to stand out…smh Why, Bri?
